Does your described invention overcome a problem or fulfill a long felt need?

Showing that your invention overcomes a problem or a long felt need existed helps establish the thresholds for patentability.

For example showing the fact that there were previous attempts to overcome a problem solved by your patent indicates that your invention was not:

• anticipated (lack of novelty) and
• obvious (lack of inventive step)
